Deleted 9,000 photos after comparing Google Photos vs my old external drive
I used to keep everything backed up in two places, Google Photos and a 2018 external drive. Last month I sat down to actually compare them side by side, same folder, same dates. The external drive had every single photo, but finding anything meant scrolling through folders named DSC_0042 and stuff like that. Google Photos had faces, places, even that trip to Austin in 2019 tagged right. I deleted the duplicates and old blurry shots off the drive, 9,000 photos gone. It felt weird at first, but I realized the drive was just a graveyard, not a memory keeper. The search is what changed my mind. Now I only keep the drive for files that are not photos. Has anyone else dropped a physical backup for a cloud one and felt okay about it?
