That time my tablet pen died mid-demo at a convention in Chicago
I was set up at Artist Alley in Rosemont back in 2022, showing off my new workflow for rendering fur in Photoshop. Right as I started the third step, my Wacom pen just stopped working mid-stroke on a big group portrait commission I had showing on the monitor. I panicked for a solid minute before digging through my bag and pulling out an old backup stylus from 2016 that barely worked but got me through the rest of the demo. Has anyone else had gear fail them right when an audience was watching?

Did you try turning it off and on again or just accept your fate?

I was at a show in Portland in 2023, doing a live digital painting demo for about 50 people, and my laptop just went completely black right in the middle of a brushstroke on a dragon eye (the hardest part to get right). I had to scramble to find the power cord under the table while everyone just stared at me. My backup was a cheap tablet I bought at a thrift store, and it had this weird lag that made the brush strokes look like they were following a ghost. It was so awkward having to explain the delay while people watched the cursor slowly catch up to my hand movements.
