Switched from Photoshop to Procreate for my last 12 commissions, no regrets
I spent 6 years using Photoshop for all my client work, but after a 3 week stretch where it kept crashing on my 2020 iPad, I finally gave Procreate a real shot. The thing that convinced me was watching a timelapse from a fellow artist in our Discord who showed how the brush engine handles line weight way more naturally, plus the $12.99 one-time price beat my Adobe subscription by a mile. I was worried about losing layer blending modes and custom brushes, but after exporting my first 5 finished pieces to PSD and seeing zero issues for the client, I switched fully. My turnaround time went from about 4 hours per character bust to under 3 because the interface just gets out of my way. Has anyone else made the jump for paid gigs, or do you stick with desktop software for final delivery?
My last 3 commissions needed text treatments and mockup exports that Procreate just cant do well, so I ended up roundtripping through Photoshop anyway. Maybe its just me, but the brush feel is nice until a client asks for a 3D logo integration and you're stuck.
