Question about the actual file sizes for high-res digital art

I just read that a single, detailed digital painting can be over 2 gigabytes, which really surprised me (I found that on a pro artist's blog). Is that normal for your work, or is it overkill for most online showcases?

Yeah, over 2 gigs is totally possible. I've seen PSD files for detailed illustrations with tons of layers hit 3 or 4 gigs easy. It's not overkill if you need to go back and edit things later, those layers add up fast.

Ever try opening one of those on an old laptop?
