The 4 a.m. garbage truck route change almost broke me, then it saved me

My trash pickup moved from Monday to Wednesday last month, so I missed two cycles before I noticed the bins rotting in the July heat in Austin. Now I tie the bag with a red ribbon on Tuesday night as a reminder, has anyone else's city done this without a single notice?

Wait, is this just the new normal where everything changes with zero heads up? I mean, we get emails about pizza specials but not about stuff that actually messes with our week.

But honestly, the "zero heads up" thing is kinda the point now. If they gave us weeks of warning about every change, nobody would ever commit to anything and the whole system just stalls. The pizza emails are easy to send, the real stuff probably takes time to figure out, so maybe a heads up is just not possible.
