Just realized I spent 3 hours on hold with my insurance over a $12 bill
Called Blue Cross last Tuesday about a charge I didn't owe, and I sat there through two transfers and one dropped call before a lady named Donna finally fixed it in about 90 seconds. Back when I was a kid my mom just walked into the office downtown and talked to a person face to face. Everything takes longer now, but I'm still not sure it's actually harder or if I've just gotten less patient. Does anyone else dread that hold music more than the actual problem?
Everything takes longer now" hits hard because it's not just insurance. I waited 45 minutes at the pharmacy last week for a prescription that was already called in, and the drive thru at my bank has been closed for "staffing" since 2021. Even ordering a pizza takes longer than it did five years ago, and don't get me started on self checkout lines that somehow move slower than a real cashier did. I don't think we got less patient, I think everything got set up to make us wait while a computer or a phone tree saves them money. The $12 bill wasn't the problem, the 3 hours was the punishment for asking.
