Warning: My cat has learned to open the bathroom door and I am losing a fight with a 9 pound animal
Three years ago I lived in a studio in Austin where the bathroom door never latched right, and my cat Jasper figured out he could hook a paw under it and yank until it swung open. Last week in my new place, with a door that actually clicks shut, he sat outside for 20 minutes, then stood on his back legs and pulled the handle down like a tiny person, and I watched the whole thing from the couch. So do I install a child lock on my own bathroom, or do I just accept that I now share every shower with a cat who thinks he's a lifeguard?
Why would you lock a cat out of a room he clearly owns now? That ship sailed the second he stood up and worked the handle like a tiny doorman. My buddy's cat does the same thing with the pantry, and once they crack one door, every other door in the house becomes a puzzle to solve. A child lock just turns your bathroom into his next challenge, and trust me, he will win that one too. Save the ten bucks, buy a better bath mat, and get used to the audience.
