That moment I realized I was shading everything backwards
I've been doodling for years, always adding shadows on the same side without thinking. Last Thursday I sketched a tree by my window in Columbus and noticed the actual shadow was pointing the opposite way from my drawing. Does anyone else ever get stuck in a habit like that and only catch it by accident?

Caught myself doing the exact same thing with lamp shadows in my bedroom. For years I drew every shadow going to the lower left, no matter where the light was actually coming from. It was like my brain had a default setting for shading and I never questioned it. Then one day I did a quick sketch of my coffee mug with the morning sun coming from the right and it looked totally wrong. Had to actually stop and stare at the wall for a minute to figure out why. Realizing the light source changes everything really broke that habit for me, though I still catch myself slipping back into it when I'm tired.
