Found out why my doodles looked stiff, it was the 3 second warmup rule
I watched a speed draw video on Thursday and the artist mentioned spending at least 3 minutes doing loose scribble circles before starting anything serious. That seemed like a waste, so I tried it during my lunch break at the warehouse in Louisville, and my quick sketch of a forklift actually had some flow to it. Then I looked up the science behind it, turns out your hand needs about 60 repetitions to loosen the wrist muscles after typing all morning. For three days I timed myself with the clock on my phone, and every single doodle after the warmup looked less like a robot drew it. The messy circles feel dumb but they honestly fix that tight grip problem I have. Does anyone else skip warmups because they think it's just for people doing finished art, or am I the only one that stubborn? Has that changed for you after seeing progress from something as simple as scribbling?
