Changed my mind about drawing on napkins after the barista at Cups on 5th showed me her stack
I used to think doodles on napkins were throwaway junk, but I watched a barista named Renae at Cups on 5th in Nashville flip through 60 napkin sketches she saved in a shoebox over 4 months. She draws one every break, and the loose fast lines actually look better than the careful stuff I spend an hour on. Now I keep a stack of scrap paper by my keys and knock out one messy doodle a day. Anyone else save their throwaway sketches or do you toss them?
A barista with a shoebox full of napkin art is the most Nashville thing I have heard all week. Sixty sketches in four months is solid, but I need to know if any of them are just coffee rings she decided to call art. My desk drawer is basically a graveyard of half drawings on the backs of receipts that I keep telling myself I will finish someday. The messy ones do hit different though, there is no time to overthink when you only have a five minute break. Renae might be onto something and I hate that a shoebox is out here proving my careful hour long drawings are basically me just fidgeting.
