I turned on 2FA for my email last month and locked myself out twice in one week
I finally set up two factor on my Gmail about a month ago after a friend got his Facebook hacked. The next Tuesday I wiped my old phone without moving my authenticator app first, and I could not get into my own account for 40 minutes. Then three days later I lost the backup codes I printed because they were in a jacket pocket that went to Goodwill. What got me back in was the recovery email I set up years ago and never touched. Lesson learned, print the codes twice and put one copy somewhere dumb like a kitchen drawer, and check that your backup email still works. Anyone got a system for keeping those codes from disappearing on you?
