I finally learned why my email kept getting hacked the hard way

Was sitting at a coffee shop in Austin last fall, checking my business email on the free wifi. Next thing I know, my dog grooming appointment system was locked and someone was asking for $300 in Bitcoin. Turns out I hadn't updated my router's firmware in like 2 years and the password was still "admin1234." Learned to set up a VPN on my phone and now I change my wifi password every 3 months. Has anyone else had a close call with public wifi?

You paid $300 Bitcoin for a hard lesson most of us learn for free after one panic attack. At least your dog grooming schedule is sacred now.

Did I really just pay 300 bucks to realize my dog needs a 10am groom slot or I spiral? Yeah, that tracks. At least now I know my panic attack triggers include budgeting, crypto, and missed bath times for my golden retriever. Worth it for the peace of mind, right?
