2FA on my email finally saved me from a real hack attempt

Last week I got a text from my bank about a login from a new device I didn't recognize. Turns out someone had my password from an old data breach, but they couldn't get past the two-factor code on my email. I set that up three years ago after a friend got locked out of their accounts, and it honestly felt like a pain at first. Now I'm wondering, for those of you who use authenticator apps instead of texts, do you think they're worth the extra setup? I keep hearing mixed things.

Tbh authenticator apps are overrated for most people. If you lose your phone or break it, you're locked out of everything and gotta jump through way more hoops to get back in than just getting a text. Texts work fine unless you're some high profile target, and even then most hacks come from phishing not someone stealing your SIM. The extra setup is just another thing to mess up when you're in a hurry, and half the people I know who use those apps still end up using backup codes anyway.
