Walkie talkie discipline on a 6 crane site in Houston
We had 6 cranes overlapping in a tight footprint last month, and the chatter was a mess until I made the whole crew use hand signals for swing direction and keep the radio for load drops only. It cut our miscommunication calls from 3 a day to 0. Anyone else force a similar rule on a busy site, or am I just being a hard case?

Did you keep the hand signals simple enough for the guys who are new to the site? I ran a similar deal on a 5 crane job where we locked in just three signals, swing left, swing right, and stop, and it worked way better than anyone expected. The radio ban for anything besides the actual drop was the game changer for us too, it forced people to actually look at each other instead of yelling over static. Sounds like you found the same sweet spot, sometimes you gotta be the hard case to keep everyone safe.
