Hot take: that $40 "cozy fishing game" bundle on the Switch sale was the worst money I spent this year
Grabbed a 5 game cozy bundle on the Switch eshop sale back in March for $40 because the screenshots looked exactly like my Stardew comfort zone. Two of the games were basically idle clickers where you tap a pond for 20 minutes, one crashed on the loading screen every single time, and the other two were 90 minute demos dressed up as full games. I put maybe 3 hours total into all of them before going right back to watering my parsnips, so that worked out to about $13 an hour for pure boredom. Lesson learned: if a bundle has no reviews and the trailer is just slow piano and rain sounds, that is not a vibe, that is a warning. Curious if anyone here has a rule for vetting these sale bundles, or do you all just eat the $40 like I did?
Three hours across five games is the part that stands out to me, because that works out to a lot less boredom than you think. Two of them were clickers and one wouldn't load, so you really only gave the two fake demos a fair shot, maybe 45 minutes each. Most decent games take an hour or two before they click, so writing off the whole bundle after that little time is a bit quick. My rule for sale bundles is to check the eShop page for the individual games first, since the bundle hides their real review scores, and then look at the "time to beat" site to see if any of them are under two hours. If three of the five are short or broken, that is when I skip it. But calling it $13 an hour assumes you played everything evenly, and you clearly did not, so the math is a little off is all I am saying.
