The stylist who told me to stop backcombing at the root was right

An older stylist I shadowed in St. Louis kept saying I was creating tension lines with my backcombing, and I brushed her off for months. After two clients complained about breakage near their crown, I finally tried her method of teasing mid-shaft and it fixed the issue completely. Anyone else have a mentor tip that took way too long to actually follow?

Wait until you see how much less product you go through when you stop packing it all against the scalp, that was the real eye opener for me and now I tell every new kid the same thing. Once I switched to mid-shaft only, my clients stopped complaining about that tight, sore feeling by the end of the day too.
