Appreciation post: switched from a brush to a $3 spray bottle for setting powder and my clients stopped flinching
For about a decade I did the big fluffy powder brush thing, dip and swirl and tap tap tap, and I just accepted that half my clients would scrunch their eyes shut and hold their breath like I was about to throw sand at them. Then back in March I was doing a bridal trial in my chair here in Fresno and the bride's sister, who does makeup at a counter in the mall, watched me brush powder under her eye and goes, you're making a dust storm, just spritz your puff. So I grabbed a cheap $3 spray bottle from the beauty supply on Blackstone, gave my velour puff two light mists, and pressed instead of dusting. The powder actually grabbed onto the skin instead of flying through the air, the finish went from cakey to almost skin-like, and I stopped going through a pressed compact every two weeks because so much of it used to end up on my cape. Now the puff gets a quick mist, I roll and press it into the T-zone, and nobody closes their eyes on me anymore. It cut my set time to maybe 90 seconds and I'm not coughing up powder by my fourth client of the day. If you still brush your setting powder on, what made you stick with it, or did you switch to pressing and never look back?
