TIL that caulking first and painting after beats the tape line trick every single time
Last week I was finishing a bathroom trim job in Fresno and my helper taped off the whole thing before we caulked, which we have done on plenty of jobs. When I pulled the tape the next morning, half the seams had jagged edges and paint bled under the tape on about 12 feet of baseboard. On the second wall I ran a thin bead of paintable caulk, tooled it with my finger, then cut in right over the caulk line with a 2 inch angled brush. Zero bleed, no tape, and it took me 20 minutes instead of the 45 we burned taping. Does anybody still tape trim on purpose, or is that just how I was taught?
