Doors swinging inward on storms are a code change I keep fighting
I read in the 2024 IRC update that exterior doors in hurricane zones now need to swing inward. That surprised me because every older house I've worked on in Gulfport has them swinging out. I checked with a structural engineer and he confirmed the change is about wind pressure ripping the hinges off. But inward doors take up entry space and make egress feel wrong in a fire. Has anyone else dealt with a homeowner who refuses the new swing direction after approval?

Bought a door swing mockup with a hinge pin you can pop out, showed them how easy it is to remove in a fire, that sealed it.
