Can we talk about how I stopped losing money on change orders by taking 20 photos before I lift a single tool?
I got burned twice last spring on two different jobs in the same week, both times because a homeowner swore up and down the wall was already like that before I touched it. Had $1,400 tied up in a bathroom remodel off Hendersonville Road that I couldn't prove wasn't my fault. So now I walk the whole job with my phone before I even unload, and I take about 20 photos plus a slow video pan of every room. Sounds like overkill till the day a guy tried to say I cracked his tile, and I pulled up a timestamped shot from 8:14 that morning showing the crack already there. Took me 15 minutes on the front end and saved me a headache that would have eaten my Saturday. I also started having the client stand there while I do it, just so they see me doing it, that alone cuts down on the weird stuff. How do you all handle proof on small jobs where a written change order feels like too much hassle?
