PSA: my crane pick in Newark got pushed back 6 hours and I'm still not sure who was right
So last Thursday we had a steel delivery scheduled for 7am at a site in Newark and the crane showed up at 1pm because the permit office sat on our street closure request for 3 days and nobody flagged it. My super says it's on me for not calling the city every single morning to check, but I think once you pay the fee and get a confirmation number, the ball is in their court. We ended up paying the crane company 4 hours of standby at $385 an hour, which is real money on a job this size, plus my guys stood around most of the morning. The frustrating part is this is the second time this year the same permit desk dropped the ball on us. I get that the city is understaffed but there has to be a better system than me being a human alarm clock for them. Do you all build in a buffer day for permit stuff or do you just eat the standby and move on? And has anyone had luck getting the city to cover the standby when it's clearly their delay?
