PSA: A single mislabeled door frame ate 9 days on our Phoenix build
We had 40 frames delivered to a job site in Phoenix and one got tagged as unit 214 when it was really for 241, so the drywall crew framed around a door that opened into a hallway wall. Nobody caught it because the tag matched the print, so we spent 9 days tearing out drywall, reframing, and rehanging before the GC would sign off. The fix took 4 hours. The runaround, the meetings, the re-inspection, and the angry call with the supplier took 9 days. Now I make the delivery guys read the tag out loud against the unit number before they drop anything, and it has saved me twice since. Anyone else had a labeling screwup snowball like this, and how do you catch it before the rock goes up?
The tag matching the print is kind of the problem though, because the guy tagging the frames is working off the same paper as the print, so if the unit number is wrong on one it's wrong on both. Reading it out loud only helps if someone has the real unit list in hand to check it against, otherwise you're just reading the same mistake back to yourself. What saved me was making the foreman walk the openings against the floor plan before the rock went up, not just trust the tags.
