My phone started recording by itself during a talk in Denver last month

I was at a public talk about internet privacy in Denver, and my phone, which was face down on the table, lit up and began an audio recording. I hadn't touched it. I immediately shut it off and pulled the battery out when I got home. It felt too planned to be a glitch. Has anyone had a device act up in a weirdly specific place like that?

My old laptop once started playing a random true crime podcast full blast in a quiet library. The look on my face was pure guilt, like I'd been caught planning something. It was just a stupid tab I forgot to close, but man, it picked the worst time to wake up.

Consider how many apps have microphone permissions these days. A pocket press or a weird notification could have triggered it without any real intent. Phones do glitch in ways that feel spooky but usually have a simple, boring cause.
