My lead hand told me my edges looked like I cut them with a shovel, so I changed one small move
Last week my lead hand watched me float a 20x30 slab and said my edges looked like I cut them with a shovel. He grabbed my mag and showed me I was pulling the float toward me instead of pushing it away from the edge, which was dragging mud off the form. I switched to pushing the float forward with a slight lift at the end and the next pour came out way cleaner, no more chasing little ridges with the edger. It felt wrong for the first 10 minutes because I had been pulling toward myself for 12 years. Has anyone else had to unlearn a float move that felt natural but was wrecking their edges?
