Chose between a power trowel and hand finishing a 40x60 slab in Lubbock, and I'm second guessing myself
Had a 40x60 shop slab pour in Lubbock last Friday and the customer wanted a real smooth finish. My old power trowel died on me two days before, so I had to pick between renting one for $180 or just hand finishing the whole thing with my crew of three. I went with hand finishing to save the money and we got it done, but my knees and back are wrecked and a couple spots near the edges show trowel marks. Customer hasn't said anything yet but I know he's gonna look close. Next time I'm just eating the rental cost. Anyone here hand finished a slab that big and actually been happy with it?
Been there man. Did a 30x50 years ago with just two of us and it about killed me. Trick that helped on the edges was keeping a steel trowel in one hand the whole time and hitting the perimeter right as it set up, before it got too hard to work. Still wish I'd just rented the machine though.
