Watched a tech at a repair shop in Boise fix a no-boot laptop with a $2 eraser
I was at a shop in Boise picking up a screen replacement when a guy brought in a laptop that would not boot. The tech pulled the RAM stick, rubbed the gold contacts with a pencil eraser for about 10 seconds, and it posted right away. He said oxidation on the pins is way more common than people think, especially on machines from humid areas. I tried it on three dead sticks back at my bench and got two of them working again. Anyone else keep a pencil eraser in their toolkit for this?
