Just realized the difference between a cheap thermal paste and the good stuff is way bigger than I thought

I used to grab whatever generic paste was on the shelf, but after a client's gaming rig kept overheating, I tried a tube of Arctic MX-6. The CPU temps dropped by 12 degrees Celsius under load, just like that. Has anyone else had a simple swap make that big of a fix?

Yeah, the cheap stuff is basically just colored grease sometimes.

My old paste was probably the same stuff @jamesm38 found. I'm surprised my cpu didn't just give up and melt.
