A 20 year vet at the Norwalk shop told me to stop keeping every old power cord, and my bench has room now
Back when I started doing bench work in the late 2000s, I saved every cord, adapter, and busted wall wart because you never know, right? A guy who'd been fixing PCs since the 90s watched me dig through a rubber bin of them for 10 minutes and just said, "you are never going to touch 80 percent of that." He had a point, so I started keeping only the oddball ones (that weird 19V laptop plug, a couple of Cisco console cables) in a labeled drawer and tossed the rest at the e-waste place on Route 1. Cut my setup time on every job by a good chunk, no more digging. Curious what the rest of you keep in your scrap bin vs what goes straight to recycling.
