Never thought twice about letting my Civic sit in the driveway every morning until he popped the hood and showed me the carbon buildup. Now I just drive slow for the first few miles and my tank lasts way longer. Anyone else's car actually run better when they quit warming it up?
My grandpa used to let his old F150 warm up for like half an hour every winter morning, and the thing always smelled like gas and ran rough. He finally quit doing it after a buddy of his who works on cars told him the same thing your mechanic did. That truck actually started better once he just hopped in and drove off slow.
