Used to eyeball my umbilical every dive, now I pressure test it after a guy in Galveston showed me what a $12k mistake looks like
Back in my first two years on a small crew out of Morgan City I did the old hand-over-hand check on my hose before every splash, just feeling for soft spots and hoping for the best. Then last month a diver on a job in Galveston pulled his umbilical after only 40 hours and found a pinhole leak that had been eating the jacket from the inside, and the repair bill came to $12 grand plus three days of downtime. How often are you guys actually testing yours, or am I the only one who let that slide for way too long?
