My hose blew at 40 feet on a pipeline job in Port Arthur and I had to buddy breathe
Was doing a routine inspection on a pipeline in Port Arthur about 2 months ago when my umbilical hose let go at 40 feet. Heard a pop, then my air cut out, and I just sat there for a second trying to figure out what happened. My tender on the surface saw the pressure drop and started hauling me up, but I signaled my buddy and we did a controlled buddy breathe on the way to the stage. Turns out the hose had a weak spot from getting pinched on the deck the week before, nobody caught it on the pre-dive check. Cost us about 3 hours of downtime and the company had to swap out the whole run. What do you guys do for hose inspections before a dive, is there a trick I'm missing?
