So I bought a Fantastic Four #49 at a con in Denver for $80 because I thought I was getting the first appearance of Black Bolt at a steal. Got it home and something felt off about the cover gloss. I spent 6 hours online comparing paper stock, ad pages, and the Marvel logo font against reference scans on CGC forums and Heritage Auctions listings. Turned out it was a 1970s reprint worth about $8 and the dealer had labeled it vaguely on purpose. I was so mad I almost drove back to the con but it had already ended. Now I check inside covers and indicia before I even ask for a price. How do you all spot reprints fast without losing your mind?
