The con floor debate that flipped my back issue stance
Denver Fan Expo back in March. A guy in a homemade Spider-Man suit arguing with a seller about variant covers. I always thought people buying graded comics were wasting cash. Then he showed me a 9.8 copy of a 2011 issue he paid $40 for. Sold it online two weeks later for $300. That same day I checked my own long boxes. Found a 2013 first print I'd been treating as a throwaway. Now I actually look up values before bagging stuff. Has anyone else had a random con conversation change their collecting habits?

Did you ever go back and dig through the rest of your long boxes after that? Because that is exactly how it started for me, except mine was a guy at a local shop who told me to stop tossing my dupes in a dollar bin without checking first. I had a stack of stuff from the early 2010s I figured was worthless, and I sold three of them for way more than I paid, which felt like found money. The weird part is I still read everything I buy, so grading it all feels wrong to me, but I do keep the nice copies in better shape now. It sounds dumb but one random chat really did change how I sort and store my books. I just wish someone had told me this ten years ago before I let a bunch of stuff get beat up in a box.
