That fancy variant cover I bought for $50 really wasn't worth it
I dropped $50 on a Jim Lee variant cover of Batman #100 at my local shop last month thinking it'd be a cool investment. Saw the same issue for $12 on eBay last week. Anyone else get burned by overpaying for variants at the store?

Honestly, that $12 eBay find stings because it shows how fast the hype dies on these things. My local shop had a blank sketch variant of Absolute Superman #1 for $40 last week, and I almost grabbed it. I saw someone flip the same blank cover for $18 on Mercari like two days later. The whole game is about timing and which shop you buy from, because some stores slap a 300% markup on variants that aren't even limited runs. You basically paid for the privilege of not waiting a week for the flippers to dump their stock. Ngl, I'm just using eBay and Mercari for variants now unless the shop has a loyalty discount.

Ngl I read your whole post and I'm just sitting here like "it's $12 on eBay who cares lol". Is it really that serious though? Like you bought a variant cover for a hobby not a retirement plan. Comics are basically just overpriced paper at the end of the day. You could have lost that $50 on literally anything else like a bad meal or a parking ticket. People treat this stuff like it's stocks or something when really it's just cardboard with shiny ink.

Wait, you actually changed my mind though cause I used to think the $50 was just part of the hobby too.
