Warning: I picked Python first and now I wonder if I should have done HTML/CSS for 6 months
Last week I finally finished my first real project, a little script that renames 200 photos based on their date, and it took me 3 months to get there. I started with Python because everyone on YouTube said it was the best first language, and I do like it, but now I look at simple websites and think I missed something. My friend did HTML and CSS for about 6 weeks and already built a page for his dad's shop in Portland, while I still can't center a div to save my life. On one hand Python taught me loops and functions in a way that finally clicked after 4 tries. On the other hand I feel like I skipped the visual stuff that makes coding feel real to beginners. So what do you think, should a total newbie learn HTML/CSS first, or is jumping into Python the smarter move?
The real problem isn't which language you start with, it's that nobody told you these two paths teach totally different skills, so comparing your progress to your friend's makes no sense. His 6 weeks got him a webpage for a shop, but he prob can't write a loop that sorts 200 files, and you can't center a div, that's just the tradeoff. Pick the one that keeps you showing up, because quitting at month 4 is the only real mistake here.
