Realized I was touching off tools wrong after 2 years on the job

Last week in Phoenix I set up a new job and kept blowing past my tolerance by 0.002 inch. Turns out I'd been using the spindle face to touch off instead of the actual tool tip, which worked fine on old machines but the new Haas setup is way more touchy. Anyone else get trained by habit instead of by the machine and only figure it out when the parts start kicking back?
