Just checked my spindle load meter after 3 years of running

I finally looked at the data logs on our Mori Seiki NH4000 and saw that my average spindle load has been at 85% for the last 18 months. Mitsubishi recommended staying under 70% for tool life, so I've been pushing way harder than I should. Found that stat in the maintenance manual tucked behind the cabinet door. Has anyone else caught something like this in their own logs that made you change how you program?

Recommended staying under 70% for tool life" - that's a pretty generic guideline though, isn't it? Mitsubishi has to cover their bases with a blanket number, but real world conditions are always different. Ive run spindles at 90% for years on certain jobs and never saw a single tool failure that wasnt operator error. How do you even know that 85% was actually causing problems or just what the manual says to avoid lawsuits? Seems like a lot of shops run hotter than that and nobody panics.

Right because nothing says precision engineering like "eh, close enough, the bearings haven't melted yet.
