Had to pick between a new spindle or a retrofit kit last month
My Haas VF-2 spindle started making this nasty grinding noise around 3000 RPM. I was looking at like $8k for a new spindle from Haas, but then found a retrofit kit from a place in Ohio for $4500. I went with the retrofit, took me a weekend to swap everything out, and it's been running smooth for 3 weeks now. Anyone else ever go the retrofit route on an older machine?

Did you have to rebalance the whole assembly after the install?

Maybe it's just me but I never had to fully rebalance after the install. Got lucky with the fitment being pretty close from the start. A little tweak on the tension and it was good to go.
