PSA: The compost bin at the Des Moines farmers market taught me more about food waste than any article
I was at the Des Moines farmers market last Saturday and watched a guy dump an entire bag of wilted kale and mushy strawberries into the compost bin while a volunteer weighed it and said, 'That's 6 pounds of food you paid for and never ate.' It hit me hard because I used to do the same thing every week, buying way too much produce that went bad in my fridge. Now I only buy what I can actually finish and I started a small compost bucket at home, but has anyone else had a wake up call like that at a market or grocery store?
