My old commute was a 45 minute drive each way, now I take the bus

For years I drove my truck from my house to the office, burning gas every day. After seeing the local air quality reports get worse, I looked up the bus route last fall. It adds about 15 minutes to the trip, but I save a tank of gas each week. Some folks say public transit is unreliable, others say it's a key part of cutting emissions. What's your take on switching from a car for daily travel?

A tank of gas saved every single week is a huge deal.

My old commute was burning through a full tank every five days. I started grouping all my errands for one trip on Saturday mornings, and it cut my gas station visits down to twice a month. It sounds small, but over a year that's a lot of money that stays in my pocket. The real win was the extra time I got back not sitting in my car every evening.

Forget the gas savings, you're just shifting the pain. Now your whole Saturday morning gets eaten up by errands instead of actually relaxing. That's prime weekend time gone, stuck in stores when you could be sleeping in or doing something fun. Plus you're stuck with a car full of groceries melting in the sun while you run to the hardware store. Spreading things out during the week keeps your weekends free and your food cold.
