Warning: that discount creosote log nearly lit my customer's flue on fire yesterday
I overheard a hardware store employee telling someone that a $8 creosote log does the same job as a proper sweep, and I had to step in after seeing the results of that shortcut leave a thick glaze behind that could have caught any minute - has anyone else run into homeowners using those things and thinking they are good to go?

Couldn't believe my ears when I overheard that either - those logs just leave a dangerous glaze that a real sweep would scrape clean. How many times have you seen people fall for that hype?

Walked past a neighbor's house last month and saw this guy literally scraping his own chimney with a garden rake. He was real proud of it too, told me he saw a video online. Next thing I know I'm smelling smoke two weeks later and his living room ceiling has this nice brown stain from a slow burn.
