That old rotary brush I had finally gave out mid-job

I was working on a chimney over on Maple Street last Tuesday and my old rotary brush just locked up halfway through. The motor started smoking and I had to stop everything to pull it out. Ended up finishing the job with a hand brush and a shop vac. Anyone else had a brush fail on them like that? I'm looking at a new one and wondering if the steel-wire models are worth the extra cash.

Did you say it was one of those blue handled ones from Home Depot? I had the exact same thing happen on a job last spring, motor just cooked itself and left a weird burnt plastic smell in the whole room. The steel wire models are tough but they can chew up your flue tiles if you aren't careful, I'd just grab another standard one and call it good.

Hang on @reese124, is it really that big of a deal? I've had that blue handled brush for like three years now and it's still kicking. Honestly, I think people just get unlucky with a bad batch sometimes. The burnt plastic smell happens if you run the brush too fast or let it sit in one spot too long, it's not a design flaw. Ngl, I've never had it chew up my flue tiles either, and I'm not exactly gentle with mine. Tbh, you might have just gotten a lemon. I'd say grab another one before you start worrying about steel wire models, those things are overkill for most jobs anyway.
