I finally compared spin brushes to a hand rod on a 10 foot liner

Last month I did two back to back jobs in Dayton, one with my old spin brush setup and one with a manual rod and basic brush. The spin brush took 20 minutes but left a fine soot film inside the firebox, I had to go back with a shop vac and rag. The hand rod took 40 minutes but the liner came out visibly cleaner, no film at all. I thought the machine was saving me time but I was really just moving the cleanup to a second trip. Anyone else ditched the motorized gear after actually checking the results side by side?

Three jobs ago I timed myself with a stopwatch on a 6 inch flue, spin brush did it in 14 minutes but I spent another 25 vacuuming and wiping the firebox clean. The motor just blows the crap around instead of pulling it out, so you're really just trading brush time for cleanup time. I went back to the hand rod for good after that, slower but I walk out knowing it's done right.
