Best week ever, then the worst Tuesday. Both in the same month?
Had a stretch where every chimney in the 3 county area had easy access and dry creosote, I finished 7 jobs in 3 days and felt like a hero. Then Tuesday comes, this old farmhouse outside Bozeman with a bird nest jammed so deep I had to pull the liner and still couldn't clear it in 4 hours. Do you guys feel like the easy jobs make the bad ones hit harder, or is it just me?
Stop treating the easy ones as the baseline. That's where the trap is. When you knock out 7 jobs smooth, your brain starts expecting every job to go that way, so the hard ones feel ten times worse than they actually are. I've had the exact same thing happen with crawlspace work, hit 5 clean ones then one with a dead raccoon and a collapsed vent, and I wanted to quit for the day. What helped me was timing the bad ones and realizing they cost maybe 2 hours extra, not a whole day. The easy streak just makes you forget that every job has its own weird surprises waiting. Just expect one bad job per week, and when it comes, treat it like part of the routine, not a personal attack on your skills.
