A 30 year sweep in Albany told me to stop brushing creosote dry, and he was wrong
He swore I needed to spray every flue with a soap solution first, but when I did that on a glazed one last month it just turned it into a sticky sludge that ate two of my rods, so does anyone here actually wet down glazed creosote or do you all just chip it dry like I do?
Man, I feel you on the rods getting wrecked, that stuff is not cheap and losing two in one job would make me lose my mind. I've had the same thing happen with the wet method on really glazed flues, it just smears it around and makes a bigger mess than what you started with. These old timers mean well but they learned on the softer stuff and glazed is a whole different animal. I still chip mine dry too and just take my time with the rotary, way less headache.
