Just realized my $3 Tuesday soup pot was the best thing that happened after my stove died
My stove gave out 5 weeks ago, and I had $17 left for food that week. I couldn't afford a repair guy, so I dug out this old 2 quart pot and started doing everything on a single hot plate. Tuesday I dumped in a can of diced tomatoes, half a bag of dried lentils, an onion, and some old carrots, and it fed me for 3 days for under $3 total. The weird part is I ate better those 3 days than I had in a while, just because I had to slow down and actually plan it. Now I keep a list on the fridge of what goes in the pot, and it's saving me about $40 a week. Anyone else have a backup cooking setup that ended up working better than the real one?
Thought I needed a full kitchen to eat cheap and I was wrong about that. Been doing the same thing with a rice cooker since my oven broke and honestly my grocery bill dropped like $30 a week. Slowing down and planning it out really does beat just grabbing stuff.
