My canned beans always came out mushy until I read the label wrong
I've been making cheap bean tacos for dinner for months, dumping a can of pinto beans straight into the pan and heating them up. Last Thursday I grabbed a can of black beans instead and noticed the label said to wash them first. I tried draining and rinsing my beans before cooking and now they actually hold their shape and taste way better. Has anyone else missed a super basic step like this for way too long?

My buddy Ted ate crunchy pasta for years before learning you have to boil water first.

Wait, is that even possible? Crunchy pasta sounds like he was basically eating hard crackers with sauce on top.

Had to laugh at @lee.drew mentioning that crunchy pasta story, because I actually read somewhere that a lot of people don't rinse their canned beans at all. There was this whole thing on a cooking blog I stumbled across where the lady said rinsing cuts the sodium by like 40% and keeps the texture firm. Made me think back to all those times I just dumped beans straight into chili and wondered why they turned to mush. Your mileage may vary, but since trying it myself, I'm a believer now.
