Took me 4 hours to hang one shelf in my garage because of one dumb stud
I spent last Saturday trying to hang a single 4 foot shelf in my garage and it turned into a 4 hour project. I drilled pilot holes where I wanted it, hit nothing but air, and kept moving over a few inches. Each time I moved over the stud finder seemed to say something different. I even went to the hardware store and bought a magnetic one for 12 bucks which didn't help at all. Turns out my garage wall has a layer of old wood paneling over the drywall and the magnet was grabbing the nails in the paneling, not the studs. I finally just poked a tiny hole every 2 inches until I found real wood, then measured off that spot. The shelf holds fine now, but I keep staring at the 9 wasted holes I had to spackle. Anyone else have a wall in their place that lies to every stud finder you own?
