I finally tried a forum meetup after lurking for 7 years and the whole thing fell apart in 20 minutes
So there's this old forum I've been on since like 2009, and for years people have been saying "we should actually meet up sometime" and nobody ever does. Well, a guy named Dave finally set one up at a pizza place in Sacramento last Saturday, and I figured after 7 years of lurking I should show my face. Twenty minutes in, the restaurant lost our reservation, Dave couldn't find parking, and the two guys who did show up spent the whole time arguing about whether the old mod was fair or not. My phone died so I couldn't even text my wife where I was, and I just sat there eating cold garlic knots while these two strangers relitigated drama from a board I barely post on. It hit me that the charm of this place was never the people, it was the weird anonymity of it, and seeing it in person kind of flattened everything. Dave texted the next day saying "we should do it again" and I have not replied yet. Did anyone else do a meetup that went sideways, or was that just me and my bad luck?
