That time a barista in Austin pointed out I was holding my pour-over kettle wrong for 6 months

I've been making pour-over coffee at home for like half a year. Thought I had it down. Went to this tiny coffee shop on South Congress last week and the barista watched me pour for two seconds. She said 'you're pouring in a spiral but your wrist is locked, you're just moving your arm.' Showed me how to use my wrist instead. First cup I made at home after that was way better. How many little things are we all doing wrong without knowing it?

Is having slightly better coffee really changing your life that much? Feels like one of those things where you adjust it once and then forget about it ten minutes later.

Does the actual coffee quality matter that much to you, or is it more about the little ritual of making it? I started grinding my own beans a few months back and yeah, the taste is a little better, but honestly the biggest thing is just having that 5 minutes to myself before the day goes crazy. Like, is the improvement in the cup itself really what people are after, or is it the whole experience around it?
